Programs and policy for Aboriginal men's health and wellbeing
A national men’s health policy
This will be delivered in 2009, focusing on:
- reducing barriers that men experience in accessing health services
- tackling widespread reticence amongst men to seek treatment
- improving male-friendly health services
- raising awareness of the range of preventable health problems that disproportionately affect men
Pit Stop health program
This program is designed to get men to take an interest in their own health through a mechanical health package. We are keen to improve the roll-out of the program through Pit Stop training for health workers across the regions in 2009.
Engagement program
We are committed to effectively engaging Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal men in the planning, designing and delivering of health programs and services in Western Australia. An engagement action plan will include the formation of an Aboriginal men's health reference group.
