Indigenous Youth Health Action Plan for Western Australia (PDF 215KB)

As with the Indigenous population as a whole, young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people suffer poorer health than their non-Indigenous counterparts.

This document outlines our goals and strategies to improve the health of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We are defining youth as those between the ages of 12 – 24 years.

Key areas we are looking at

  • Healthy eating and healthy weight
  • Physical activity and health
  • Low risk alcohol use
  • Preventing smoking
  • Preventing injury

Additional needs

We are also working to:

  • increase knowledge of the needs of Indigenous youth and health services
  • promote better, youth friendly health services for Indigenous young people
  • improve the health of disabled Indigenous young people and those with long-term illnesses
